things i love thursday
gala darling style.

“mechanized man, oblivious of floras, is proud of his progress in cleaning up the landscape on which, willy-nilly, he must live out his days.” + “we grieve only for what we know.” + “they move en masse to the green pasture & apparently spend the nights rubbing their ribs in its velvety depths.” + “things hoped for have a higher value than things assured.” + “early risers feel at ease with each other, perhaps because, unlike those who sleep late, they are given to understatement of their own achievements.” + “the stream is a lazy one; he winds through he alders as if he would rather stay here than reach the river. so would i.” + “but all conservation of wildness is self-defeating, for to cherish we must see & fondle, & when enough have seen & fondled, there is no wilderness left to cherish.” + “never had there been so rare a day, or so rich a solitude to spend it in.” + ” he has not learned to think like a mountain. hence we have dustbowls, & rivers washing the future into the sea.” + “it is only in the mind that shining adventure remains forever bright.”

little things like this make the 100+ degree heat, horse flies, sore muscles, steep embankments, muddy shoes & sunburned shoulders worth every moment + realizing that dirt roads, small town manners & slow silence is exactly what i want.

“oh, & something else, i don’t have anything. to. lose.” + eleveneleveneleven + counting down to the big bang

“happy birthday, helen (1949). hoping you’ll enjoy happy & beautiful moments with walden. may you & jack visit it one day together.”

forever: “so if ever someone says to you, ‘life isn’t fair, get used to it,’ then you should say, ‘well it might be if folks like you would let it be.’” memories & אהבה אין קץ
